Import a car from Japan to Malaysia
Malaysia drives on the left, but used-car imports are tightly controlled and need an Approved Permit (AP). We help experienced importers and AP holders source RHD units at the auctions and ship to Port Klang.
A controlled market — for AP holders and specialists
What Malaysia requires
Malaysia protects its domestic industry, so used-car imports are restricted and require an Approved Permit (AP) obtained before the car reaches port. Under MITI's Open AP policy, reconditioned passenger cars must generally be 1–5 years old from first registration. This page is for AP holders and specialist importers.
Approved Permit (AP)
Importing a used car into Malaysia requires an AP (JK69) issued by MITI, obtained before the vehicle reaches port. Without one, used imports are not permitted.
Right-hand drive
Malaysia drives on the left and uses RHD cars — the Japanese auctions match by default. JPJ/VTA compliance still applies on arrival.
Open AP age band: 1–5 years
MITI's Open AP policy generally limits reconditioned passenger cars to between one and five years old from first registration. Budget carefully and confirm eligibility and the landed total with a licensed forwarder.
AP, duty & excise at your end. Malaysian import duty and excise on cars are high, and an Approved Permit is required. These are handled locally and are not in the JapanAuc landed cost — confirm eligibility and rates with MITI / Royal Malaysian Customs.

Your JapanAuc landed cost to Port Klang
Everything JapanAuc charges is in Japanese yen and transparent: the hammer price you win at, our commission (flat ¥35,000 up to ¥1,000,000, then 3.5%), the Export Package (auction-house fee + inland transport + export handling), then ocean freight. Added up, that’s your CIF Port Klang price.
The Approved Permit, import duty and excise are handled and paid locally in Malaysia — not part of our quote. Use the calculator for a live CIF figure, then add your local clearing costs.
